Building Stronger Communities Together
The Warren Sherman Area Council, born from the collective vision of dedicated residents, stands as a beacon of hope and transformation in Toledo, Ohio. We are neighbors and community champions working side by side to create a thriving, vibrant neighborhood where everyone can flourish. Our resident-led work is grounded in the belief that lasting change comes from within the community itself, transforming streets, uplifting families, and creating opportunities shaped by the voices and dreams of Warren Sherman residents.
While the Warren Sherman area faces challenges such as economic hardship and aging infrastructure, it also possesses incredible strengths. Our neighborhood is rich with history, cultural diversity, and dedicated residents, supported by strong churches, schools, and local businesses. These assets form the foundation upon which we are building a brighter future, one block, one family, and one success story at a time.
Our Core Focus Areas
Neighborhood Revitalization
Transforming spaces through cleanups, beautification projects, blight removal, and connecting residents with home repair resources. We organize regular community cleanups, maintain green spaces, and work with city partners to address abandoned properties.
Youth & Family Support
Empowering the next generation through after-school programs, mentoring, leadership development, arts and sports activities, and family resource connections. Our youth are our future, and we invest in their success.
Community Health & Safety
Promoting wellness through health fairs, mental health resources, safety initiatives, and partnerships with local healthcare providers. We believe healthy neighborhoods start with healthy residents.
Economic & Workforce Support
Opening doors to opportunity through job readiness training, small business workshops, financial literacy classes, and workforce development programs that connect residents to living-wage employment.
Our Programs in Action
Every initiative we undertake is designed with one goal in mind: empowering Warren Sherman residents to build the community they deserve. Our programs respond directly to needs identified by neighbors themselves, ensuring that our work remains relevant, impactful, and community-driven. We believe in meeting people where they are and providing the resources, support, and opportunities they need to thrive.
Youth Development & Leadership
Our youth programs provide safe, nurturing environments where young people can explore their interests, develop new skills, and build confidence. From after-school homework help to summer leadership camps, creative arts workshops to sports activities, we're investing in the leaders, innovators, and changemakers of tomorrow.
Neighborhood Beautification
Pride in our community starts with how our streets and spaces look and feel. Through regular cleanups, community garden projects, tree planting initiatives, and partnerships with the city, we're transforming neglected areas into sources of neighborhood pride and gathering spaces for residents.
Health & Wellness Initiatives
Access to quality healthcare shouldn't depend on your zip code. Our health and safety programs bring vital services directly to residents, including health screenings, mental health resources, nutrition education, and safety workshops that address everything from fire prevention to personal safety.
Workforce Development
Economic opportunity is the pathway to stability and prosperity. Our workforce programs offer job readiness training, resume building workshops, interview preparation, financial literacy classes, and direct connections to employers seeking dedicated workers. We also support aspiring entrepreneurs with small business development resources.
